Blog 76: Dogwood 52 Weeks Photography Challenge (Week 22: Story - Geometric Shapes)

Reading time: approx. 4 min.

Posted: 3-Jun-2017.

This week is story week so here are two stories:

1-Ramadan Lantern

We are in the month of Ramadan and this month have many cultural rituals and “things” associated with it specially in recent years. One of these things is a “Ramadan Lantern”. “Ramadan lanterns are accessories Ramadan that may be also called fanoos in the singular (فانوس) meaning lamp or light in Arabic. The word itself was probably adopted from the Coptic/Greek word hanos which means light or lantern… later it was transliterated to “candle”. Any candle or lantern was indicated for a symbol of hope to light the way from the darkness. Ramadan lanterns are decorative lanterns crafted specifically for the holy month. In a place like Egypt, lanterns and lamps have always been special to the Egyptians. They are signs that Ramadan is near and common sight during the 30 days of Ramadan.”*

So with its geometric shape, I thought why not to incorporate the Ramadan lantern in telling the story of the holy month. The idea is to take a picture of the lantern having the background filled with Bokeh balls and an out of focus person praying. Here is the resulted picture:

2-Starbucks Cups Around The World

I developed this habit of collecting Starbucks cups in all my travels. The name of the city of country on the cup. When editing this weeks challenge, i just looked at the book self and saw these round cups and why not; lets take a picture of them for this week geometric challenge and lets make it a little bit different:
